Responder Wipes

Product Description

Responder Wipes are developed for first responders, including firefighters, police, EMS, HazMat, and disaster relief personnel. They are uniquely formulated with Micellar Water, an innovative ingredient with cleansing compounds that dissolve dirt, oil, soot, and other hydrocarbons. Micelles gently lift away toxins and contaminants and draw out impurities from pores while hydrating your skin more effectively than traditional cleansing wipes.

Responder Wipes are applicable not only for structure fires, but car fires, dumpster fires, and any other fires where smoke and soot are present.  They will remove dirt, oil, and soot from the face, ears, neck, jaw, throat, arms, underarms, wrists, hands, and any other contaminated areas after an event. They can also be used for any other incident when you need a quick clean up.

Did you know that firefighters are more likely to use a wipe if they understand how to use them to effectively decontaminate their skin? To help educate your department, we have prepared recommended decontamination procedures for using Responder Wipes.

Responder Wipes are the ONLY decontamination wipes in the U.S. recognized as a “Healthy Firefighters” approved product.  Healthy Firefighters – the Skellefteå Model is the Swedish initiative that developed international standards for preventing and counteracting sources of illness in firefighters. The country’s employee and employer organizations came together for this collaborative project aimed at preventing occupational health hazards among firefighters. Now adopted as the standard in 17 European countries, the “Healthy Firefighters” project provides concise decontamination protocols which can improve firefighters’ health and well-being.

Ingredients

Responder Wipes is committed to providing the best product to our customers. We researched and tested various materials and formulations until we were certain we had a decontamination wipe that would help remove the risk of harmful contaminants, toxins, and soot without irritating the skin. Our wipes do not contain aloe or alcohol, which preliminary studies have indicated may make skin more permeable.

They are uniquely formulated with micellar water, a skin cleansing compound that doesn’t require rinsing, is gentle on the skin, and uses technology different than most other skin cleaners, leaving the skin feeling clean and hydrated. Micellar water is made with micelles, tiny lipid cleansing molecules that work like a magnet to capture and lift away dirt, oil, soot, and other harmful matter from the skin’s surface without harsh rubbing.

Responder Wipes are manufactured in Israel, which is known as an industry leader in the medical and biotech industry. They are manufactured under cGMP, ISO 9002, and ISO14001. Our wipes meet all U.S. FDA regulations, including listing the country of origin on our packaging.

New Braunfels, TX Fire Department
“I chose Responder Wipes because, as the chief, I place a premium on the health and wellness of my personnel.  Responder Wipes, with their larger size, make it easier for our personnel to decon following a fire, which dramatically reduces their exposure to fire related cancer-causing agents.  They are also convenient and simple to use.  In the fire service simple is always better.”

“We just wanted to tell you how great the Responder Wipes have been to all of our students and agency members.  We have been stressing the importance of decontamination over the past couple of years and the purchase of your wipes has been instrumental in that goal.   The thickness and size are perfect as well as no stickiness has brought nothing but compliments from our first responders.”

FAQ

What is the size of Responder Wipes?
Responder Wipes come in three sizes. Our original Extra-Large Wipe is 12” x 24” and is individually packaged with 16 to a box. Our Medium Wipe is 8″ x 12″ and is individually wrapped with 16 to a carton. Our Small Wipe is 8″ x 8” and is packaged 20 in a re-sealable pack. You can order all three HERE.

What is Micellar Water and how does it work?

Responder Wipes are uniquely formulated with Micellar Water which has been around for more than 70 years. Originally designed as a make-up remover for women who didn’t want to use hard water and harsh soap on their delicate skin, micellar water uses encapsulation technology to dissolve the bond between soot and your skin.

When gently applied to the surface of the skin, the micelle spheres split open against the surface. When the application pressure lifts, the molecule cluster closes up again, and in the process grabs what isn’t water from the skin’s surface and traps it in the fabric of the wipe. This allows you to wipe off soot without smearing it around or rubbing hard. Micelles are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin.

What are the ingredients in Responder Wipes?

See our Ingredients Page by clicking here. Our wipes DO NOT contain aloe or alcohol which are known penetration enhancers.

Click HERE to read about aloe as a penetration enhancer. Some wipe companies will tell you that their wipes don’t contain “that type of aloe.” We’ve got news for you – aloe is aloe! Our wipes are gentle and cooling to the skin without aloe.

Click HERE to read about alcohol as a penetration enhancer. Some wipe companies try to hide that their wipes contain alcohol by labeling it as “SDA40B” which stands for “specialty denatured alcohol” otherwise known as ethanol. Even though our wipes contain “benzyl alcohol” they are still considered alcohol free. An explanation of this is available HERE.

Are Responder Wipes ingredients safe?
Responder Wipes are completely safe and meet FDA and EU standards. Competing wipes, in an effort to differentiate themselves, have made claims that “some decon wipes can hurt you” and that their wipe is safer. We believe this is irresponsible misinformation.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer is the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization and is the foremost authority on carcinogenicity of specific exposures. The IARC has not identified any of our ingredients as potentially carcinogenic.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review, working with the FDA has issued this Safety Assessment on the safety of one of our ingredients, sodium benzoate.

The EU has issued this Cosmetic Directive on the safety of another of our ingredients, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate.

Do you support any firefighter cancer organizations?
Our dedication to the firefighter community is unwavering. While there are many worthy organizations supporting firefighters with cancer, we recognize that many small rural or volunteer departments struggle with establishing a decontamination program. In honor of BC Josh Carney of Midway Fire-Rescue who passed away from melanoma, we co-founded the Carney Strong Initiative. On a monthly basis, the Carney Strong Initiative selects one department to provide decontamination products and cancer education materials to. Our hope is that no other family has to experience the devastation of losing a firefighter to occupational cancer.

What is the shelf life of Responder Wipes?
Responder Wipes have a three-year shelf life from the date of manufacture.

Are Responder Wipes flushable?
Responder Wipes’ fabric is 80 gsm, therefore they are not flushable. This extra thick fabric ensures the wipe does not shred, tear, or ball up when used.

Are Responder Wipes biodegradable?
Responder Wipes are made with 100% viscose fabric which is biodegradable.

Are Responder Wipes safe for wiping my mask?
While we cannot guarantee that Responder Wipes are safe to use on your mask, our wipes do not contain ethyl or isopropyl alcohol or ammonia, ingredients that could damage your mask or facepiece. After you wipe yourself, feel free to use that wipe to clean off the soot from your mask and facepiece.
